Thoughts about the "25 technologies" seminar
I thought this seminar was really interesting, (if a tad long!) He talked about so many things that I was only vaguely aware of or knew nothing about and thought that I would have no use for. From the first moment I heard about them I thought 'myspace' and 'blogging' were just things that only teenagers and people that spent their days on the internet chatting, would be interested in. I was surprised to find how many different uses these new technologies have and how many that I actually might have use for ie. google office. Many of his examples, I thought could be incorporated into our library page, (if not in the works already!)eg. book club blogs, or other ideas like - local studies blog, volunteer family history research helper blog, blog about our library's new technology - rfid. We could use tagging for topics or books listed for the hsc. Recording storytimes/rhymetimes and podcasting for those with several young kids, or kids with special needs; which makes it hard to get into the library especially with parking issues!!! There were just so many uses and that was only 25 different technologies from who knows how many exist today and how many more there will be in the future!!!
